Toffee Squares

This buttery ,toffee bar cookie is covered with chocolate and sprinkled with nuts. Turn your back for one minutes and they will disappear from your cookie platter. I always hide a few of these yummy cookies in my vegetable bin…cookie bandits won’t look there!

Toffee Squares

Ingredients

  • ½ cup margarine

  • ½ cup butter

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 1 egg yolk, beaten

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 cups flour

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • 8 ounces sweet chocolate (large Hershey bar)

  • 2/3 cup chopped pecans

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Spray a rimmed cookie sheet with cooking spray (or oil it)
  • Cream together the margarine and butter.
  • Add the brown sugar, egg yolk and vanilla and beat well.
  • Gradually add the flour and salt, beating well after each addition.
  • Spread evenly into the prepared cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes.
  • While crust is baking, melt the chocolate.
  • Spread the melted chocolate over the hot baked crust.
  • 10. Sprinkle with nuts.
  • 11. Cut into squares while still warm.
