  • 6 ½ pounds tart apples, peeled, cored and chopped

  • ½ cup sugar

  • 1 cup light brown sugar, lightly packed

  • 1 Tablespoon cinnamon

  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg

  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 Tablespoon vanilla

Directions

  • Put the apples, sugars, spices and salt in the slow cooker.
  • Cover and cook on low for 10 hours, stirring occasionally.
  • After 10 hours, add the vanilla and cook UNCOVERED for 2 more hours.

  • Place jars in freezer until ready to use.

Notes

  • NOTE: I use small jars because apple butter spoils very quickly and there are just the two of us!
