This buttery ,toffee bar cookie is covered with chocolate and sprinkled with nuts. Turn your back for one minutes and they will disappear from your cookie platter. I always hide a few of these yummy cookies in my vegetable bin…cookie bandits won’t look there!
Toffee Squares

Ingredients
½ cup margarine
½ cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg yolk, beaten
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups flour
¼ teaspoon salt
8 ounces sweet chocolate (large Hershey bar)
2/3 cup chopped pecans
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Spray a rimmed cookie sheet with cooking spray (or oil it)
- Cream together the margarine and butter.
- Add the brown sugar, egg yolk and vanilla and beat well.
- Gradually add the flour and salt, beating well after each addition.
- Spread evenly into the prepared cookie sheet.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes.
- While crust is baking, melt the chocolate.
- Spread the melted chocolate over the hot baked crust.
- 10. Sprinkle with nuts.
- 11. Cut into squares while still warm.
