I’ve been serving these potatoes for many years, usually with ham. The potatoes cook into a tender pillow of goodness, in a creamy sauce laced with cheddar cheese.
Scalloped Potatoes

3 Tablespoons butter
2/3 cup minced onions
3 Tablespoons flour
1½ teaspoon salt
Dash pepper
1½ cup milk
4 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees
- Spray the bottom and sides of a casserole dish with cooking spray
- Heat milk, butter and flour in a saucepan until thickened,
- Add salt, pepper and cheese. Stir until smooth.
- Place half of the potatoes in the casserole dish.
- Sprinkle with half of the onions.
- Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes.
- Repeat the potato, onion and sauce layers.
- Cover and bake for 1 hour.
- 10. Uncover and cook 30 minutes more or until tender.
- 11. Sprinkle with paprika for color (if desired)
- 12. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
