This is probably one of the first recipes I put in my recipe collection, probably around 56 years ago. I had found it while looking through my mother’s loose recipes and I copied it to put in my “hope chest”. I usually make these at Christmas time, when I do major cookie bakes. This is a very dainty, tender cookie laced with chopped nuts and rolled in powdered sugar.
Mexican Wedding Cookies

½ cup butter
½ cup shortening
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cup flour
1 cup chopped nuts
6 Tablespoon powdered sugar plus additional for rolling
Directions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees
- Cream butter, shortening and vanilla together until well blended.
- Stir in the flour, nuts and sugar. Mix well.
- Shape in small balls and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake for 10 minutes.
- Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes.
- Roll the warm cookie in powdered sugar and cool.
Notes
- Makes about 3 dozen cookies.
