These tender and tasty sugar cookies are covered with a glaze, rather than sugar. They can be decorated by adding food coloring to the glaze. Even though my children are grown, they still love these big cookies.
Giant Sugar Cookies

2/3 cup shortening
2/3 cup butter, softened
1 ½ cups sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoon vanilla
3 ½ cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

- GLAZE
1 cup powdered sugar
1Tablespoon light corn syrup
2 Tablespoons water
10 drops food coloring
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Cream shortening , butter and sugar.
- Stir in eggs and vanilla.
- Combine dry ingredients and add to butter mixture until dough comes together.
- Roll ¼ cup dough into a ball (or use a large cookie scoop) and place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Flatten cookie with the bottom of a plate (5 cookies will fit on the cookie sheet).
- If you are going to sprinkle on sugar rather than glaze, sprinkle the sugar on now.
- Bake for 12 minutes or until edges start to brown.
- Remove from cookie sheet and cool on wire rack
- 10.If you chose to glaze the cookie, prepare the glaze.
- 11. Put the glaze ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
- 12. Spread the glaze onto the cookies, stirring the glaze often so it doesn’t gel .
- 13 Leave the cookies on the wire rack until the glaze has set.
