Giant Sugar Cookies

These tender and tasty sugar cookies are covered with a glaze, rather than sugar. They can be decorated by adding food coloring to the glaze. Even though my children are grown, they still love these big cookies.

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup shortening

  • 2/3 cup butter, softened

  • 1 ½ cups sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 teaspoon vanilla

  • 3 ½ cups flour

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • GLAZE
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 1Tablespoon light corn syrup

  • 2 Tablespoons water

  • 10 drops food coloring

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Cream shortening , butter and sugar.
  • Stir in eggs and vanilla.
  • Combine dry ingredients and add to butter mixture until dough comes together.
  • Roll ¼ cup dough into a ball (or use a large cookie scoop) and place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Flatten cookie with the bottom of a plate (5 cookies will fit on the cookie sheet).
  • If you are going to sprinkle on sugar rather than glaze, sprinkle the sugar on now.
  • Bake for 12 minutes or until edges start to brown.
  • Remove from cookie sheet and cool on wire rack
  • 10.If you chose to glaze the cookie, prepare the glaze.
  • 11. Put the glaze ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
  • 12. Spread the glaze onto the cookies, stirring the glaze often so it doesn’t gel .
  • 13 Leave the cookies on the wire rack until the glaze has set.

  • Makes 15 cookies
