Nothing’s better than a hot, salty bread type pretzel, hot out of the oven. The best part of all is you don’t have to pay 2, 3, 4 or 5 dollars each. You can bake them yourself and sprinkle on as little or as much as you like!
Soft Pretzels

Ingredients
1¼ cup warm (85 degree) water
1 package dry yeast
½ teaspoon sugar
4½ cups flour
Kosher salt
Vegetable shortening (to grease bowl and cookie sheet)
1 egg yolk, diluted with ½ Tablespoon water
Directions
- Combine water, yeast and sugar and let stand for 1 hour.
- Add the flour to the yeast mixture.
- Knead 7 to 8 minutes.
- Let rise, covered, in greased bowl until doubled in bulk.
- Punch down and break off hunks of dough, roll into a rope about 8 inches long and shape into a pretzel shape.
- Place on greased cookie sheet.
- Brush with egg yolk/water mixture.
- Sprinkle with coarse Kosher salt.
- Let rise until not quite doubled in size.
- 10.Bake in a preheated 475 degree oven for 10 minutes.
- Serve with your favorite mustard or ranch dressing.
