Many folks enjoy a cake like brownie and this one was always a winner with my co-workers. It’s loaded with chocolate chips and nuts, and is covered with an easy to make chocolate icing. Or, skip the icing and simply dust the brownies with powdered sugar.
Brownies (Cake like)

1 stick butter, softened
1 cup sugar
4 eggs, well beaten
1 cup flour
1 16oz. can chocolate syrup (I prefer Hershey’s brand)
½ cup chopped walnuts
½ cup chocolate chips

- ICING
½ cup brown sugar
½ cup white sugar
1 stick butter
¼ cup milk
½ cup chocolate chips
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Grease a 9×13 inch pan
- In a large bowl, cream the sugar and butter together until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Add the flour and mix until well combined
- Add the chocolate syrup and mix well.
- Stir in the nuts and chocolate chips until well incorporated.
- Spoon batter into prepared pan, spreading evenly with the back of the spoon.
- Bake for 30 minutes
- While brownies are baking, prepare icing.
- Put the first four icing ingredients in saucepan and boil for 2 minutes.
- Add the chocolate chips and stir until melted.
- Cool slightly and then pour over the hot brownies.
- Cool completely before serving.
Notes
- These brownies are delicious even without the icing. Just dust with powdered sugar to decorate.
