Marinated in yogurt and spices, this dish is juicy and bursting with flavor. Serve it with a side of rice or Naan bread.
Ethnic Dishes
Chana Masala (Savory Indian Garbanzo Beans)
My old friend Sudesh shared this recipe with me almost 50 years ago. It’s a savory mix of chick peas, tomatoes, garlic, onions and spices…lots of spices, simmered to perfection. The chick peas are served with Roti or Naan bread. I cook the chick peas in a pressure cooker, but the old stove top method […]
Samosa (Appetizer)
Years ago my friend Prem would host parties to which I was invited. Prem was from India, so all the food they served were Indian dishes. This appetizer was one of my favorites. I describe it as a little fried pie stuffed with a spicy potato and pea filling. It is absolutely delicious and can […]
Pork Carnitas
After spending the day in a slow cooker, this succulent pork will tantalize your taste buds with its spicy blend of flavors. You can serve this on tortillas with your favorite toppings . My favorite way to enjoy this is to spread the meat over tortilla chips, covered with cheese and pop it under the […]
Green Chili Verde
Tender pork, simmered to perfection, in a sauce made from roasted peppers, garlic, tomatillos, onions and spices. Wrap it up in a tortilla with a side of refried beans for a “south of the border” treat.
Pierogi
Years ago one of my customers, Geri P., shared her Polish Grandma’s Pierogi recipe with me. While I do have another similar recipe on this site, I want to include this one which has sour cream in it (the other recipe does not). I had a perogi “cook off” with a handful of friends, and […]
Sauerkraut Pierogi Filling
This is my favorite filling for pierogi. Nice and tart with bits of bacon. If you prefer a less tart filling, rinse the sauerkraut before mixing with the other ingredients and drain it well.
Pierogi Cheese Filling
This recipe is for a traditional cheese filling. There are many variations of cheese filling for pierogi. Some folks add some cheddar for color or some herbs such as parsley or an onion.
Noodle Kugel
Several years ago I was visiting my niece Margaret and her husbands Grandma Sarah lived with them. Sara was Jewish and Hanukkah was approaching, so she was telling us about the Dreidel she played with as a child. One thing lead to another and we ended up on the subject of food. Sarah mentioned a […]
African Red Lentil Soup
A friend of mine lived in South Africa for several years and when she returned to the USA, she brought several of her husbands family recipes back with her. She gave me a copy of this recipe and I finally got around to making it this afternoon. Now I must tell you, I have never […]
